Calvin and Brayden continue to only want mama in the mornings on weekdays. I really wish they wouldn't fuss and fight so much with poor dada when I'm just trying to get them ready for daycare. Unfortunately I don't have time to wait for them so I just have to basically hold them down and change them.
Carter and Aubrey continue to sleep through the night. I realized that I don't feel tired while driving to and from work anymore. Obviously that's a good thing. I can also concentrate more at work.
Dada had flowers delivered to mama at work on Valentine's Day. The daycare lady also had two roses for Calvin and Brayden to give to mama when we got home. Brayden decided to use his rose as a weapon on the ride home. He was smacking the flower against the car seat. He also would move it over and touch Calvin with it, which Calvin did not appreciate. Calvin kept asking Brayden to "stop poking me". By the time we got home Brayden's rose was almost completely beaten up.
The kids all received a dollar in their Valentine's card from my parents. They didn't understand what money was yet. We told Calvin and Brayden that it was money and they could buy stuff with it, but they still are a little young to understand currency. As a matter of fact, Calvin has been picking up a piece of paper (I think it's instructions to something) and saying that it's money. If only it worked that way.
The kids have all been playing with their Hot Wheels cars more and more. One day I was playing with them and had two Lamborghini's. I told the boys that the cars were called Lamborghini's and I was surprised at how well they picked up on the name. Of course Calvin proceeded to call just about all cars Lamborghini's. He even would say that cars he saw on the road on the way home from daycare were Lamborghini's.
Carter likes to attack his giant teddy bears. The babies each got a huge teddy bear for Christmas. Carter will crawl over to one and then tackle it. Then he'll turn around and do the same to the other. He has the biggest grin on his face while he is doing it.
Brayden and Calvin finally had their two-year doctor's office visit on Thursday. I dropped the babies off at daycare when Erin took the boys in and then I met them at the doctor's office after I dropped off Carter and Aubrey. The pediatrician's office is directly across the hall from Erin's office so she took the boys a little early so that her co-workers could see the boys. Brayden did quite well even though he was a little bored and wanted to go. Calvin was not happy at all. Brayden doesn't appear to have an allergy. The doctor said that it looked more like Eczema. It doesn't appear to be itchy which is good. We got some medicated lotion to put on Brayden that will hopefully make it better.
We decided to stop using the baby timers. We got to the point where it's easy enough to tell if the babies are hungry without seeing how long it had been since they last ate.
This blog serves as my "online diary" for being a parent of multiple multiples. My wife and I have a set of twin boys that were born 9/30/09. They were followed by another set of twins which was a boy and girl born 3/22/11. Having four children that close in age is quite an experience.

Tooth Fairy Recycling
Carter finally got his first tooth a little over a week ago (2/6). His bottom teeth have finally poked through.
The babies have been doing quite well sleeping through the night. They also typically go right to sleep when we put them down around 7:00 each night.
The boys appear to have become mama's boys. They definitely like their mama more than dada at this point in time. Morning's have become rough for poor dada. Neither of the boys want dada to pick them up and get them changed in the mornings. At least they are happy to see me when I pick them up from daycare in the evening.
On Saturday we noticed that Aubrey had two top teeth poke through. Apparently she didn't want to be equal to her brother for long. We're still waiting for her to start crawling. She will sort of scoot when she sits, but she'll only move a foot or so. We took the kids out to Target and PetSmart Saturday morning. The kids all had a great time. Brayden couldn't get enough of the gerbils that were hiding under their wood chips.
After the stores we went to Burger King. We let Calvin and Brayden run wild in the play area. They absolutely loved it. In fact they didn't even eat any of their french fries or chicken nuggets.
After Burger King we came home and got the kids in bed. Carter and Aubrey once again took a while to finally go to sleep.*a Carter didn't sleep for very long even though he was the last to fall asleep. It was a pretty good rest of the day though. The boys all played with their trains, Hot Wheels cars and monster trucks.
Sunday morning wasn't much different than every other Sunday. Kids got up. They ate. We went to Wal-Mart. Came home and gave them lunch. Put them to bed. Carter and Aubrey fussed yet again and took about an hour to finally put to sleep.*a At least they slept for longer than they did on Saturday. Carter was the first to get up yet again.
Erin's parents came over around 2:00. They agreed to watch all four kids so we could go out and get some dinner. We went to a relatively new place called The Pita Pit. It was really good. Nothing fancy. It's basically a fast food restaurant similar to a sub shop, but they use pitas instead of sub rolls. After eating we went to The Fresh Market (really nice grocery store) to get a dessert for the kids. They had a lot of really good looking desserts to choose from. We picked up a few and headed home.
The boys barely even touched their dessert, but that's okay because dada ate it. I gave them a bath and then got the boys ready for bed. Carter was already in bed when we got home. They were just putting Aubrey down when we walked in the door.

Play With This, Okay?
We went to the Williamsburg public library for the first time Saturday morning. The boys played with the toys more than the books. Eventually they started grabbing books off the shelves so we could read to them. Carter and Aubrey also did very well at the Library. The babies fell asleep on the way to the library and actually stayed asleep for a while. They woke up while we were there and got out and played for a bit. Carter really enjoyed pulling himself up on things and cruising around.
Aubrey still isn't crawling. It's getting to the point that we're starting to get a little worried that she's behind, but I'm sure she'll turn out just fine. It looks like Carter has two teeth that are about to poke through.
After the library we picked up lunch at Chick Fil-A and then came home. The babies weren't interested in napping at all. We got the boys down easily. Calvin actually asked to lay down and take a nap which is a first. They actually slept quite well.*a We had to pick up the babies and take them back downstairs to play because they just wouldn't go to sleep. After about an hour we gave them a bottle and they actually went to sleep. They didn't sleep that long though. Aubrey was up about forty minutes later. Then Carter got up fifteen or twenty minutes after his sister. They played well and we always enjoy giving them some attention without the boys around. The babies definitely don't get anywhere near the attention that Calvin and Brayden did when they were babies. I'm not sure what's better for their development...watching their older brothers or getting more attention from mama and dada.
I started smoking the pastrami early Saturday morning (about 6:30). I had to add charcoal a few times. Since it was cold the smoker went through a lot more charcoal and I ran out after about six hours. Fortunately the gas station just up the street had charcoal so I picked up two bags so I could finish smoking the pastrami. I was outside checking on the pastrami and I saw a few of my neighbors talking at the road. They came over and asked if they could smell the pastrami. I obliged and opened the lid. They were impressed with the smell. They'll be more impressed Sunday when we get to eat it.
"Play with this car, okay" is what Calvin was saying to Brayden in the afternoon while they were playing. He kept saying slightly different variations of it, but always ended with "okay?". Brayden would sometimes respond by saying "okay". The kids did very well playing the rest of the day.
Aubrey woke up around 4:00 Sunday morning. I gave her a bottle and then put her back in bed. She didn't get up again until about 7:00. Carter got up a little after 5:00 and didn't go back to sleep. I think it's actually better when they wake up early and then go back to sleep. The boys got up about the same time Aubrey did.
Calvin and Brayden ate some pancakes. Then Calvin ate a bunch of dada's cream cheese stuffed french toast. I don't mind. It keeps me from eating too much and they eat more.
Erin's family came over Sunday about 1:00 to celebrate her father's birthday. Everyone had a really good time. Calvin and Brayden had a long nap when we got home from Wal-Mart and didn't get up until about 3:30. I figure that they sleep somewhere between 12 and 15 hours each day.
Brayden may be allergic to strawberries. Erin gave him a bath Sunday night and he had a rash all over his back and stomach. He didn't have it in the morning. The boys ate lost of strawberries for lunch so that may be what caused the rash.
The Super Bowl party across the street started at 4:00. I couldn't go over that early, but I decided to warm up the pastrami and take it over around 4:30. The boys wanted to go with me so I took them with Pappap. When we got to the door the boys heard dogs barking and wouldn't go in the house. We tried to get them in, but eventually gave up and took them back home. I stayed for a while and went back over about 6:00. Erin and her parents were nice enough to watch the kids while I went over to the party. Everyone commented on how great the pastrami was. There was lots of good food, but the pastrami was pretty awesome.
The game was decent. I was hoping that the Patriots would win. Mostly because I don't like the Giants since they beat the Bills in Super Bowl XXV. I can't believe that the anouncers mentioned Scott Norwood towards the end of the game (he missed the potential game winning field goal at the end of Super Bowl XXV). Buffalo Bills fans everywhere cringed when they heard that. I had a good time watching the game. All the neighbors get along very well so it makes getting together a lot of fun. At some point in time we'll be able to take all the kids over (when they get a few years older) which will make it much easier to do things together. There are a few neighbors with kids the same age as our kids, but many of the kids in the neighborhood are a little older (6-11).

A Second Cowbra
Babies have been sleeping through the night. They look so big when we put their jammies on that have separate pants and shirt (instead of a onesie). Pretty soon they'll be wearing 18 month clothes.
The babies are "talking" more. They say mama and dada all the time. Aubrey makes this "ah ah ah ah" sound. After she says it I repeat it and then she smiles and repeats it back to me. This will go on for minutes until one of us gets tired.
Carter will crawl around and find a bottle on the floor and pick it up and put it to his mouth and start drinking. We have also been giving the babies sippy cups of water and they actually drink a little bit from them.
We're definitely going to have to buy car seats very soon. The babies (especially Carter) are getting too big for the car seat carriers. We get the pleasure of buying four car seats at once. Two for Erin's car and two for mine. Fortunately we get fairly cheap ones, but they have worked well for the boys.
Brayden was rather fussy a few days on the car ride home. I'm wondering if he didn't nap for very long at daycare.
The daycare lady's son found another Cowbra (part cow, part zebra stuffed animal) and got it for Aubrey. They gave it to her one morning and her eyes light up. She loves to hold both Cowbra's in her hands and flail them around.
Friday when I was picking up the kids the boys were running around outside after I got the babies loaded in the car. Brayden went up some stairs and decided to jump from the second step to the first step. I tried to stop him, but he jumped and then lost his balance and fell to the ground landing on his head. He cried for a little bit, but he didn't even have a mark on him.

Bacon Maple Donut
Grammie (Erin's mom) had a birthday on Saturday. We went over to their place for brunch. Carter was standing holding onto the coffee table and fell and hit his head. I was actually reaching to grab him when he slipped. It looked like he hit right across his forehead, but it was apparent a few minutes later that he actually hit just next to his left eye. It was bruised, but it wasn't too bad. He obviously cried for a bit, but it didn't take long and he was smiling and happy again. As a matter of fact he headed back for the coffee table, but we didn't let him near it again for obvious reasons.
The boys were outside almost the entire day. They were blowing bubbles and playing with chalk on the sidewalk. Brayden would take a few steps and then swipe his hand down and make a line with the chalk then take a few more steps and make another line. They also really enjoyed just wandering around outside and looking at the birds and trees. They had a great time picking up pine cones and throwing them. It was only about 50-degrees, but it felt warmer in the sun.
I had my first bacon maple donut and it was really good. There was a local donut shop not too far from Erin's sister's house so they picked some up when they came over. It reminded me of when I was a kid and we went to my grandmother's house (dad's mom). We would get up really early and go to the local donut shop for a donut and chocolate milk. It was great.
We ended up leaving late. Our plan was to leave by 11:15, but we left closer to 1:00. The kids all slept during the car ride home. When we got home the boys went down for a nap, but the babies didn't. The babies got really fussy later so they went to bed early.
Sunday morning Carter and Aubrey ate some of Calvin and Brayden's french toast.*m We would break off a small piece and giving it to the babies and they were gobbling it up. After a little while we headed out for our routine shopping trip. The babies actually fell asleep on the way to Wal-Mart. The kids were all really good while we were out. Shortly after we got home the babies got a bottle and were put down for a nap. The boys didn't eat much of their lunch, which has become the norm. The boys were put down for a nap and they went down rather quickly. The babies were not as easy. We kept trying to get them to nap and eventually we just got them up out of bed. We gave them another bottle and played with them for a while before putting them back to bed. This time they actually went to sleep.
Erin's parents came over Sunday evening. The babies didn't sleep long, but at least they went down for a little bit. We were able to get some things cleaned around the house while they were down. I went downstairs to clean and ended up laying down and falling asleep because I was so tired. I was awaken by Calvin coming downstairs to see me. We played for a bit before heading upstairs. We played for a while longer before dinner. The boys continue to play with their train set and Hot Wheels cars everyday.
The babies went to bed early again since they didn't really nap. I gave the boys a bath before they went to bed. They like to run wild upstairs before getting in bed. They run between all the rooms which we don't mind as long as they don't go in the babies room. When they try to run past me I grab them and do flips and things that really gets them laughing. Eventually they calm down and go to bed.
